Hey guys, I wanted to review my callipers for you today. They are just such an indispensable tool and, for the price, if you’re an apprentice or work in any shop setting, having this pair is a must!

Mitutoyo has a long history of producing reliable and accurate measurement tools. I’ll leave a link to their manual with the specs for all their measuring tools (link to pdf).
What do you get?
Both micrometres come with their own plastic cases to keep them clean and protected in your toolbox. They also come with an adjusting wrench which is going to be important overtime to make sure your Mitutoyo micrometre is calibrated and accurate before each use. For the 1-2 micrometre, in addition to its adjusting wrench, it also comes with a 1” gauge to check your micrometre before each use.
Its use!?
Both these micrometres have a great feel in your hand. You have to use them with one hand because of their size, but also because of the design of the C frame. Having carbide anvils confirms that this is a quality tool that will last a long time delivering accurate measurements. The font size and contrast to the satin chrome finish make this tool very easy to read for quick and efficient use. From reading the manual, I did learn that the hammer tone baked enamel on the C frame was placed there to minimize heat conducted to/from the user’s hand to the C frame, which could change the reading for the micrometre because of the expansion. Mitutoyo has a great breakdown on the percentage of error accumulated for every .001 degree celsius if you’re interested. (Link here)
I highly recommend this micrometre to any novice in the trade or even a journeyman who uses their micrometres daily. Whether you use it 2-3 times daily or just occasionally need it, this micrometre will work for you. It’s easy to use, affordable, accurate, and durable. It gets a 5 out of 5.
I would only add, if you’re using your micrometre several times a day in a CNC situation, maybe having a digital read-out would make your life easier so you’re not always turning the dial to get a reading, but that still doesn’t take away from what a great tool this is.
